A friend bought a 47 Chevy without an engine. I have a 194. How much trouble is it to put in the 194, or, what would you do if it were you. The car will be used for just drining around, nothing special. Maybe for sale. Thanks for any input. Terry
The stock engine would be a 216. They should be easy to find cheap because no one wants them. Check the classifieds here or at ChevyTalk.com I believe a 194 is a GMC engine, and may require some engine mount modifications to make it fit.
The stock engine is a 216, but a later full pressure 235 or 261 will bolt right in and be a much nicer engine. The 194/230/250/292 series engines are too long for the space and require scabbing in new mounts and a new bellhousing. I find running 235's all the time for $100. I had a 250 that I traded straight across for the 261 that is in my truck right now. I like the 261 a lot.
