Getting rid of a high voltage distributor for plug on coil is always a good idea on modern engines with their 11-1 compression ratios leaner fuel mixtures and on board computer controls.On vintage engines with less demands on the ignition system,maybe not...But....
Late in WW2 this was done on a few piston engine aircraft without electronics and using a mechanical "distributor" to send out the low voltage signal to each coil in the firing order.
So.....could be done by modifying a stock points distributor to send battery voltage to each coil but likely no more accurate than what we have now....So move on to electronic controls.
