I've got a 261 that will be rebuilt and dropped into a '50 Chevy Sedan. I've been following this forum for months and while there have been a zillion posts on specifics, I've got a very general question about carburation choices. My goal is a tractable, smooth, quiet street driver with as much power possible without any compromise of driveability. I'm staying with the stock cam but from the standpoint of carburetion, I'm looking at everything, including the Clifford EFI. Right now I'm leaning towards the edelbrock 500 4bbl with the Clifford intake but I'm still looking for real-life experience with the different setups and I'm wide open to any good advice.

thanks,
Dan

Dear Dan;

I would leave it stock.

You see; Without raising compression & valve duration more carburation will only raise your gas bill.

Your going to rebuild, so plan accordingly.

You could speak to Roger @ Patrick's to learn more.

Good luck, John M....

Dan I would go the other way,load it up.If you havn't bought parts yet get the biggset overbore pistons you can get, mill the head an 1/8th.A full race cam, split exauhst and an hei or some other spark improvments. These mods will really wake up your 261 wihout throwing driveabilty out the window.A couple of centurys ago when I was young I had a more extreme engine in a 55 sedan, It was the first car my little sister drove,she had no problems and liked the hell out of it. If a little is good more is better and too much is just right
