Inliners International Forums General Discussion Engines Into and I need help please

Hi there, Andrew Cooke here from Belfast N.Ireland. I have 2 chevy's one is a 1950 4 door which is undergoing a major restoration and I am 2 dooring it with a 4" roof chop, it will be an early 50 custom sytle. The other car is a 62 Chevy Biscane. This is the one that I need help with at the moment. It is a right hand drive car, it was a herse which has been chopped into a pickup. The engine is missing some rockers so I have got a straight 6 engine from a mid eighties chevy van which I have been told was the same. I pulled the engine out yesterday and it does not look the same to me. Will this engine fit a 62 straight 6 with power glide trans. Any help would be great.

The two engines are from different engine families.The newer engine should be fairly easy to install in place of the old one. Of the two engines which one is easier to get parts for ? I myself like the older ones (235-261)--If you go with the older one and need some rockers,I will give you some good used ones if You will pay for the shipping.Goodluck with Your cars,

Thanks Chuck for the reply .I am lookin the easy way to get this baby on the road . I think fitting the newer engine will be a lot more work than getting the old one goin, I would be more than happy to pay the shipping what do I do next , Will I try and sort out shiping or can you post them and I will pick uo the bill?. Thanks I still do not know what to do , I payed my money for the van engine so do not want to waste it !! I think I will pull out the pick engine and have a good look at it.I will let you know..

Welcome to the board.

For starters, the 194 is a completely different motor, and will not bolt into the chassis or to the '62 235 powerglide. You will need to change the tranny if you go this route. The bellhousing pattern on the 194 is the same as the V8's and 90V6's and '63 and up L6's, so finding a different tranny should not be a problem, but you will need to make/modify motor mounts. Changing to a manual tranny is even more work as you don't have the right pedal assembly, etc.. for the swap. The 194 is also about 1 1/2" longer than the 235, so fan clearance may be an issue. Gas pedal linkage, exhaust pipes and driveshaft length/spline count are also going to be issues.

As for rocker arms and such for a 235, they can be bought new from parts stores here in the states, like Napa, Car Quest, etc... so you may be able to order something online with a credit card if you choose.
