When installing a Chevy 194 timing cover, how difficult is it line up the cover? I'm thinking bolt the oil pan down first, and it will be ok. Using Fel Pro brand cover seal. Thanks

Bolt the timing cover on first. It would be very hard to not line up the cover. There are too many bolts. If they do not fit, it's not lined up.

This for 230/250, but I don't see why 194 would be any different:
The crank pulley lines up the cover. Start the bolts loosely and slide the pulley in. As it goes in, it pushes the cover whichever way it needs to go. Then tighten the cover bolts, then the rest. Nothing else really matters, just the pulley fit to the seal. The crank needs to be located exactly in the middle of the cover hole, and that's how you get it there. If you use anything else as reference, the seal will most likely leak. If I misunderstood something please correct me...

edit: 230 cover holes allow movement/different positioning.
