I'm replacing my now unusable oil pan. A guy sent me one from a 57. Will it work?

As to bolting right on ,yes it will fit, but I admit I don't know how the difference in baffles may come into play regarding the oil pump pickup and screen.

What if I cut the baffle out of the 57 pan?

Dear Mr. Garretthes;
The baffle needs to be there, the 59 one is just another method.
If your pick up tube fits you can use the 57 one as-is. You'll have to set it on the engine & see etc.
If not, you could cut out the 57 one & put in the one out of the 59 pan.
Good luck, John M, #3370

Nice camera garretthes, it sure takes nice pictures. I have been waiting for some responces from your question because I am in the same boat as you are. (both of my pans are exactly like yours) I am going to try and use it, but I will check the oil pickup tube real close.

I tried fitting the 57 pan into place and it did fit with no clearance issues. The biggest difference between the 2 pans is the 57 is deeper at the back but the deeper section isn't as long as the 59. As I was cleaning the 57 pan to paint I found a small hole. GREAT. So my buddy who is a skilled welder with good equipment took a shot at fixing both pans. I decided to go back with the stock pan. I will fill with oil today and see how it works.

Drove it around the area for 15 minutes today. No oil leaks yet. It's too good to be true.
