I would like to ask what is the best gaskets sold which best are best made to the spec's of what was required for a 54' 235. Seems to me the gasket material today is made for the engines which have lot aluminum in them and heat expansion and they behave very different than those gaskets made back when for the old cast iron engines and added iron equipment.
Or do the engines which are having exhaust links a lot are the builders adding another set of gaskets to it and then using a liberal amount of rtv sealant to then ?
I’d like to hear from as many as possible because I like to hear what each person does, or what the norm most are doing.

Thanks,
Charles H.

Charles,

I have assembled several GMC inline sixes in recent years and had good results from using both Felpro gaskets and BEST gaskets.

I have been using cast iron headers (Nicson) and have not experienced any leaks in over 20,000 combined miles on two of the engines.

Thanks Ken for the reply,
I If I go to headers I may not have that problem, however I'm keeping the stock manifolds and there seems to be my leak issue.
Many Thanks,
Charles
