It was supposed to have come out of 66 chevy pickup. I know about the in and out thing but on initial set up and attachment of the cable should the cable be pushed in? And the lever should it be all the way back? I didn't see anything like you described inside the solenoid. Guess I'll have to take it apart again and check.
