I've done several searches here on the site and didn't come up with what I was looking for and my book is at the shop . . . .so . . . . I'm asking the general population.

What are the "Book" weights of assembled 230/250 and 292 motors ?

Dear Mr. Crockett;

A complete 261" weighs 400# W/O starter/generator. If this is for shiping purposes they (shiper) will weigh it for you.

The 'later' 250/292 would be in that area. Larry P. might know the exact weight if you need that.

Contact the Webmaster for the signature issue. He may have to do it for you.

As I understood it the older L6s, [261s] were heavier than the L22 L6 series [292s]. But about 450 sounds right for a fully dressed 292. Still lighter than the SBC.

A reference I have lists the 230 / 250 engines at 420lbs with a water pump, carb, exh manifold and a distributer but without any flywheel or alternator. By comparison an all cast iron small block Chevy V8 is listed at 530 lbs in the same trim and the older 216 was just about 625 lbs; or about the same as a big block all cast iron Chevy V8.

Any of the GMC, Mopar, or Ford guys have weights for their engines? All of these weights might be of some help in the tech section after they are confirmed as correct.

If the 230 /250 weighs in @ 420lbs . . . then I think it would be safe to say that a 292 would be around 450lbs by the time you factor the taller block and additional crank and rod weight . . . .

There used to be an engine swapping book like those "How to" books put out by Hot Rod.
Listed sixes and eights, weights and measurements.
Wish I'd bought that.
Sorry can't recall right name.
Maybe on ebay or Amazon.

Complete Book of Engine Swapping, by LeRoi Tex Smith, copyright 1968 might be the Hot Rod Magazine Technical Library book you remember. It shows the weight of a 250 at 475 lbs. Measurements are also given. Complete Book of Engine Swapping No. 2, copyright 1969 doesn't have that information but does have good info on swapping sixes.
