Have you got a compression gauge? I had a v-thingie with a bent exhaust valve. Engine shook like the dickens at idle and would smooth out with throttle. Thought I had gauled a cylinder (on the initial startup after rebuild) creating blow by. Did a compression test on every cylinder - they all read around 220 psi - except the one which was dead zero!
