What are these tubes inside the exhaust ports of a GM I6 250? Engine has the removable manifolds. The tubes are all plugged with either pipe plugs or bolts. Two on the flywheel end have copper line coming out that has been folded over and flattened shut.

Can't seem to find any info on them (must not be using the right name). Not in the Santucci Power Manual either that I could find.

Co-worker thought they might be something to do with emissions.

The carbon and gunk on this engine is incredible, claimed to be running when pulled. Got it for $70 so, as long as the block and head aren't cracked, I'll be happy.

Also, hello. New to the forum, I may start a build thread and will probably join inliners. I'm in the early stages of building a car, my grandfather is excited about the project. My father and son are also starting to get interested.

They are for a air pump. You can remove them and block off the holes.

Cool, I'll yank them.

Thank you.
