I got the two main parts back and pasted it all together to see what it will look like when finished. The next step is to get it tig welded but first I have to decide if I really need to have manifold heat on the motor in California weather. I've been told I need it and I don't? I suppose I could add it later if needed. All three carbs will have chokes. One day, I'm hoping to put a whuppin on one of those, ahh, other off brand inliners. \:\)

WOW! If I had a set of runners and a flange that looked that good I wouldn't hide it with the rest of the induction system.

Very very nice work!!

How about doing a photo article on it for the 12 Port News?

I got my manifold back today. I am really happy with how it turned out. I wish I could take credit for the Tig welding but I can't. My next step is to get the nos nozzels fitted onto the intake runners.

For that I need steel or stainless bungs that are 1/16" ID pipe thread. All I can find are 1/8". Does anyone know of a source for them or will I have to make them myself from steel rod.

That looks pretty sweet and your even putting NOS on it. I can get 1/16 stainless pipe nipples in my area. If you can find some try to cut them in half for a weld bung.

I have considered water heat and designed for it. The mounting system the plenum sits on does not allow for the usual water heat at the bottom of the plenum. I had to compromise and may have to add heat to the lower side of the plenum base. Don't know how well it will work. I was hoping the close proximity of the headers to the intake would supply enough heat and the 3/8" thick base and top plates will hold a lot of heat. I figure one of these designs will work for the water heat:

I'm working on another design with 12" runners into the side of the plenum and then water heat can be added to the bottom.

I'll try it without the heat and see what happens to fuel atomization.

Steven: Thanks for that tip about stainless couplers. McMaster/Carr doesn't even carry 1/16"(or, I just can't find them on the site!)
I'll probably end up welding small plate steel to the top of the runners and tapping 1/16" NPT.
The problem with that is getting the correct 30 degree angle for injectors.

57: The runners are 8". They need to be longer but thats what I had to work with. Plenum size on my 225 ci motor is 19" long by 1-1/4" inside depth. Width was based on carb base linkage restrictions. There are some very knowledgable people here that can help you determine whats best for your particular motor.

Heres what I was looking at. Its the annular fogger. It doesn't fit into the runner very far and depending on your runner configuration, it can be installed at a lower 30 degree angle vs the usual 90 degree. You can't see it in the picture, but the end has a square notch.

Now the plan is to drill out steel rod to 0.242" and then use a 1/16-27 NPT tap to make the bungs. Then weld them in at 30 degree angle. Pics to follow.

Sorry about the red X's above. I moved some pics around on my site. \:o

Thinking about you wanting to add manifold heat.
Ford trucks used a power steering cooler that might fit the purpose. It looks like a small aftermarket auto trans cooler with a simple U shaped tube surrounded by a flat fin package. Fabbing up an aluminum box to hold it snugly up against the floor of the plenum may do the trick.
Running it by itself without a full box around it wouldn't transmit as much heat to the plenum.

I never measured one but off the top of my head I would estimate the little cooler to be approx 6 to 8 inches long, 2 inches or so wide and less than 3/4 inch thick.

Just a strange idea that came to me before I had finished my first coffee of the day. \:D
