Transmission changes are a piece of cake. The 292 has the same bell housing bolt pattern as the smallblock V thing so any transmission from 1955 to now will bolt up. Driveshaft length might need a bit of modification but that's easy too. The T56 six speed is the top of the food chain and most expensive too, but the 5 speed is O.K. Be sure to use one from an 8 cyl. they are made for more torque, I have one (5 sp.)behind my built up 292 and it works fine.
