hello, I'm new here and actually couldn't really find what i was looking for on turbocharging a chevy 250, its a 1979 250chevy engine with the integrated head. And i like to know if it is worth turbocharging it to get 200-250hp or am i better of using other mods? car has to be driveable in low and high rpm. don't know at what rpm i cruise the most cuz i dont have a tachometer. In time I'll add an overdrive to the car. my current setup is: Chevy 250 engine 1979 (truck) rochester varajet 2se standard exhaust 1965 3speed (three on the tree) gearbox
If its worth it what parts do i need

Here's my 2 cents. Ditch the integral head, regardless. To get to 200-250, rework the engine instead of turbocharging. A budget would be helpful to know what you are doing. I love turbos, but if you are only trying to get 200-250, a turbo would be a lot of money/work. A good head, cam, headers, intake, and carb will have you seeing 200-250 pretty easily.

there is not really a planned budget, i have a spare engine sitting here, this is the one i will work on (its a 1979 camaro engine)and I'll just be gathering the needed parts untill i have them all. But my thought was that if I go for turbo setup I would have less work on the engine so if one is done and swapped i can prepare the other engine the same way and put it aside so when one fails on me i can just swap engines. but anyway if not going turbo what setup should i be looking for? and how much money should i keep in mind?

200 hp?
Offy intake $200 Langdon headers $270 Holley 8007, 390 CFM 4 bbl: $200-250 used Exhaust: single 2.5" with Flowmaster 44 muffler: $500-ish HEI: $100 radiator: $200 250 head: I've seen whole 250 engines for $200.
Keep in mind you don't have to do it all in one shot. You can go in steps.

Even better you can put an LS engine & make a lot more power.
The new LS based V-6 engines make a lot of power also. https://www.google.com/search?q=LS+GM++based+V-6&biw=1129&bih=562&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0CCwQsARqFQoTCO_fxKCNrscCFcwsiAodDWMBOg&dpr=1.7#imgrc=R5-TkQeNaYa7BM%3A

sorry about my late reply, been busy working on my house. Engine sits in a 1965 impala, bigger engine is not possible because of the safety inspection, more power is because there is no mentioning on hp on the papers. reason I want to get to 200hp: not stress the engine too hard and with 200 i have enough for most cars driving around here. If it is safe to go up a bit more that's no problem for me. I can't find an older head for the engine around here (Belgium), and even complete engines are all later models and the ask 1000 euro (1200dollar) for a whole engine... Anyone milled of the manifold to get an aftermarket fitted on the heads? thanks for the replys anyway. Ps no new engines will be use because i want a carburated car and the new V6 are all injection

Ps no new engines will be use because i want a carburated car and the new V6 are all injection The 2006/2009 Saab SUVs had a GM DOHC 4.2L inline 6 (same size as your 250), if you built an carb intake for it (intake flanges are available) and put a 4bbl carb on it, you would get 270ish HP with out the turbo. The ignition can be run by a stand alone ignition controller so no need to run the factory PCM. Add a turbo later and get 400+HP
