BALLAST. This is the question. '61 Chevy 235 in a 1/2 ton Apache 10. There was no ballast resistor when I purchased the truck. I have not been able to find a part number for a ballast resistor available for this application. A mechanic friend of mine INSISTS that a ballast should be installed to prevent problems with the Pertronix module I installed. Pertronix instructions say to leave things as they were. Hoping someone can clear this up for me. Thanks

ballast resistors were used after the change was made to 12 volts. just use a 12 volt rated coil which will have an internal resistor. ballast resistors have tendency to go bad. your your present coil will probably work fine as is or you could go with what ever pentronix has. you shouldn't need a resistor in front of the coil.

There are tons of Pertronix coils on Ebay for (Buy it Now)about $26.00. One of these would max out your system and most likely not require a resistor...SCRAPH
