I had a GMC 302 shipped to me from St Louis to western NY state by truck freight,about 1000 miles. Cost 150 bucks,I picked it up at the truck terminal.The weight on this complete engine with bellhousing and clutch was listed at 560 lbs by the freight company.
It's less expensive if the person shipping the engine drops it off at the terminal and you pick it up at the terminal.
Also,if you live by airport served by Foward Air,check out their costs.I've shpped 400 lbs motorcycles across country in 3 days for 400 bucks.Foward air ship engines that are securely strapped to a pallet.They will unload it by forklift from the back of a pu truck,and load it the same way at it's destination.
