I purchased these products

Greywerks Harmonic Balancer #102075
Summit pulley # G3961
Permatex Anti Seize
ARP pulley bolt #134-2501
Crankshaft snout drilling tool from Tom Lowe
7/16-20 quality tap and drill set
Proform 66515 Harmonic Balancer Installation Tool
MSD timing tape

I machined about 1/4" off the end of the balancer center shaft allowing the balancer to go on within 1/4" of the front cover

I machined the center of the pulley to fit over the pulley bolt washer. This allows removal of the pulley after the balancer is installed

I machined a piece of 1" round brass stock to a length of 5/8" with a center hole of 7/16"

I drilled the crank snout using the guide tool to the recommended depth. I then tapped the hole with the 7/16-20 tap

I coated the crank snout and the inside of the balancer shaft with Permatex anti seize.

I installed the balancer installation tool in the snout taking it to the bottom and then backing off a thread length. I had read of people snapping this tool and I felt it was because the tool was set too tight and did not allow any flex during the installation

The woodruff was installed in the crank and the balancer was set slightly on the end of the snout and the bearing, the washer and the nut were installed on the install tool and snugged up to the balancer.

I used a socket to hold the end to the tool to prevent it from turning and a 12 pipe wrench on the nut.

Turning the nut at a steady pace, it pushed the balancer on the snout without any binding or forcing until it came to rest against the crank gear.

I removed the install tool and installed the ARP bolt, washer and brass spacer using loc-tite on the threads. The reason for the spacer was to have something to torque the bolt against.

I then installed the pulley which fit over the retaining bolt, securing it with 3 bolts each with loc-tite on the threads.

Having previously found TDC, I installed the MSD timing tape on the perimeter face of the balancer.

I am not trying to talk down to anyone, it is just that everything I have read on line is half information. I really felt like I was re-inventing the wheel. I just wanted to share the complete picture of what I found and what I did. This install went without a hitch. Never install a balancer with a hammer or any other impact device and never use the retainer bolt to draw the balancer on. Between Tom's drilling fixture and the Proform install tool, the investment is small and the job is easy.

Because I use this engine in my Altered, I wasn't too concerned with pulley alignment, but if you want to install any balancer/pulley combo on your 235/261, you will have to deal with the alignment situation.

Warren,
Nice write up.
One thing I do differently. I use Permatex Ultra Grey on the inside of the balancer snout. Oil will try and travel along the pressed area between the balancer and crankshaft.
