The 292 is taller, but the same length.
The motor mount and fuel pump are in different locations from your 230. (pass. side)
As for hood clearance, how much do you have now?
If it's less than 2" you may have a problem. If appearances aren't an issue, you may be able to find another air cleaner at a salvage yard that would work better. Just look around.
Ford used a much shorter 1 bbl Holley carb in the 50's and 60's that could also help. Be aware that they came in several sizes and that many of them will be too small for your application. Not sure about the bolt pattern either, you may need to slot the mounting holes. Of course, if you run 2 or 3 of them, then the smaller sizes could work out quite well.
Perhaps waiting to get the 4 bbl setup is the wiser thing to do...
