UGH! While tearing down my 261 I bent one of the rod cap bolts. Anyone know where I can get a replacement? I checked my stash of 235 parts- not a match. Another strange thing with this rebuild is the main bearings. I have a 1955-1957 motor, casting number 3837012. When I got the new main bearings they did not fit. The best way I can discribe it is that there is a notch on the block and a corresponding notch on the bearing. On my motor the notch is towards the front of the block but the caps were towards the back. I thought that the bearings were packaged wrong, but when I went to the parts store they looked it up (pictures) and found that the bearing I need is for a motor older than a 55. Whats up with that?

con't: One last thing while I'm on a rant. I've given up on making the full-flow conversion. As much as I can figure out it can't be done with my 1957 261. I realy wanted to do this, but guess I bought the wrong motor. I will still use a spin on type filter for easy oil changes. UGH!

trident, you can definitely do the full flow coversion on a 57 261. go to stovebolt.com & click on tech tips, scroll down to engines & click on 235, 261 full flow conversion. you'll find a list of tools, clearcut instructions & color pictures!
ARP can supply you with a rod bolt or most any automotive machine shop can find a substitute.

update: did not have wrong bearings- just trying to put them in backwards. Not sure why the parts man said pics showed different bearings. Anyway they are in now.
robertf- I have looked at stovbolts instructions. I am wondering if the previous owner has already done the conversion as it looks like where the holes are being dilled I already have them. Wish my digital worked so I could post a picture. The hole I have in the oil galley is smaller that the one shown on the stovebolt instructions.
