I wanted a balanced crankshaft so I got one from 12Bolt, it is the 12 weight crank. Yesterday when I finally got to tearing down the bottom end on my 292 to get it to the machine shop, I saw mine is a 6 weight crank. The damper is the big heavy 3 groove. Will the 3 groove damper work on the 12 weight crank? I have read the cranks got changed at a certain year but since I am unfamiliar with all of this, I am asking you guys. I would like to reuse my 3 groove if possible.

All of the snouts are the same and dampeners will interchange 194 -292. That doesn't mean they all work equally well on different size engines. But yours should be fine. For a good street engine especially a truck the rotating mass is good. Heavy dampener and 12 weight crank.
Here is a good discussion of 292 cranks. 292 Cranks

That thread you linked is why I went with the 12 weight crank, but when buying I never thought of the damper. Of course I have no idea how complete the bracketry is that I got with the engine, so I don't know what the grooves run. I will have of course alternator. And want power steering. AC is also a want but can go either way, with or without.

It would be nice to have all the belts and pulleys line up but brackets can be fabbed. Crank & water pump alignment is nice.
