I have a 292 Chevy out of a 65 C60. I'm using a 14" flexplate with Powermaster starter that bolts directly to the block. No matter how much I shim, the starter drive will not retract from the flexplate. What am I doing wrong? mad

Maybe it needs to be moved away from the flywheel, NOT down from the flywheel. Two different bolt patterns. for different dia. which shifted the starter left to right Or right to left if you follow me on this. Shimming a starter Moves it down from the flywheel. Somewhere also bolt to the Bell housing Which again aligned differently to the flywheel. Hoping this is a little more helpful.
