My new water pump has mounting holes that are further apart than the original pump. It matches the 1975 spare engine. Measuring the outside of two bolts, the original is about 2-1/16, new is 2-3/8. The spare pulley is a different configuration and not suitable.
I am assuming the thing to do is to round the holes until the fit. Any other suggestions?

I would suggest getting the holes slotted. Keep the index hole intact.

I agree, but he still needs a water pump pulley.

Oops... forgot about that little problem.
My water pump had universal mounting holes. In other words: two sets. I rotated until it fit.

Mark, It sounds like they gave you the wrong pump. Also check the height of the hub from mounting surface of pulley to pump body where it goes in block. They're not all the same. Parts books use to have measurements for this. I'm assuming you're using pulleys for a 67 Camaro.
Did trucks get the bigger diameter bolt patter vs cars or was that a change from the 60's to the 70's?

Hmmm, I don't feel inclined to put on a new pump, but will check out the price. I think a guy I work with will have a drill press. Maybe he can help me slot it. Otherwise I'd be putting the pulley in the vise and just running a bit and slotting it myself. I fear I've about ruined my drill with this type of sideways motion.

Replacing the pump is pretty easy. I think there's about 6 bolts holding it on. Pops right off.

Yeah, if the pump isn't lining up with the bully on the PS pump and alternator (and smog pump and/or AC compressor if you have them, I don't) don't line up the pulleys with the water pump one, it won't matter whether the pump pulley fits or not. The belts will pop off.

I am trying to avoid another $60. I don't trust the cheap reconditioned cardone pumps. Was thinking tuff stuff might have better chance of higher quality.
Opinions?

Honestly I bought mine at Autozone. they're about $27. Got mine about 2 years ago and no problems yet. They also sell a "heavy duty" version for about $80 but doing the math you'd have to go through 3 of the cheap ones to make it economical to go for the expensive one. http://www.autozone.com/cooling-heating-...omString=search

I remember getting mine from either Summit Racing or Napa. Pretty cheap and fit fine.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I ended up ordering a Tuff Stuff from Summit. It is $60. I was going to buy oreilly, but they wouldn't do in store pickup and shipping was crazy expensive. One of the less expensive from summit was an extra two weeks to get.

local guy here I spoke with used a 65-66 mustang pulley 2 groove to make his 292 work for PS/AC/alt without using the bolt on crank pulley..... he thought he had to drill out the holes a bit, but said it worked great with a small spacer

Another option would be to drill the other set of holes between the first set, 8 holes, two options.
If one wanted to elongate the existing holes, find someone with a milling machine(Brideport) to do a nice job.
