Would the LP gas pistons be a good choice for an engine to be used primarily for cruising on the freeway in long distance travel or are there other better choices keeping in the 9 to 1 compression range?

Yes, the LP pistons work well. Not sure what the compression ratio would be, but this seems to be the only cheap way to get higher compression pistons. They worked well for me. Joe

Hey Joe,If I were to buy a long block from a parts store and specified I wanted a LP gas engine,do you think it would have the higher compression pistons and would this be the only difference? Thanks for your or any one elses thoughts on this.........

The only difference in the two should be the pistons. Everything else the same.

I would be surprised if you could order an LP engine over the counter, but if you can find one, then have at it. They came with a higher compression ratio because LP has better anti-knock characteristics than gasoline (higher octane rating). Badger Pistons used to (and may still) make forged LP units, as well as a couple other manufacturers. I believe the LP ratio was either 8.8 or 9 to 1. Considering that you can easily build a 10 or 11 to 1 engine with a good camshaft and still use pump gas, a 9 to 1 ratio isn't going to give you any trouble.

I have been trying to locate a supplier for these LPG pistons. But I am having no luck. I do not know who the manufacturer is. Nor do I know a part number. Can anyone provide some info.

I am using the LPG pistons and got mine from Federal-Mogel . The part number is 980P . They offered them in .020 / .030 / .040 / .060 over bores .
They ran around $38.00 a piece .
