It's been said that you can put any engine in any vehicle, it just depends on the time and money you want to spend...

In your friends case, it shouldn't be too much trouble to put the gm engine in its place.

What tranny does it have?

I'm at work and our content filter specifically blocks ebay.com...

258 sounds like an American Motors engine. If memory serves me right there is nothing wrong with them

Hey JeepDude,

I'm sorry - that kinda sucks. Although I can't blame them. I'd be a whole lot more productive if I weren't able to use ebay and this website.

chevyII-
yeah it does suck, but at least I can get to this site and a few others. It was one of those "if we do this to them, we have to do it for everybody" type things.

So, was it the J-10?

Hey JeepDude,

here you go:

http://lyndonjscott.com/freelancejobs/pickup/

btw, I did buy that c-10 with the 292 and 4 sp w/ granny gear. I'll let you know what the tranny is once i get the truck. i gotta wait for the check to clear. I got is using eloan through ebay financing its pretty cool. they will finance anything over $2500 @ about 6%, which isn't bad on old cars.

If it's a '67 C/10, the 4-speed should be an SM420 and if it's '68 or later it should be an SM465. Not counting any PO's modifications or if it was made in Canada or by GMC. [They kept the 420 for a model year or 2 later.]

Thanks ChevyII, that link worked fine.
They lowered the h#ll outta that thing! How's the suspension set up on it? Looks like a pretty good ride overall.

"Airbag suspension that lays frame, front and back, up and down. Custom step-notched frame, 2-link rearend with panhard bar."

We're probably going to check it out on Sunday.

'68OrangeSunshine - thanks for the info. any idea what the ratios are on those trannies?
EDIT: oh, found it 6.55, 3.58, 1.57, 1.00

IHC did use the AMC/Jeep 258 for a few years. Not putting down the Chevy six, but you're better off keeping the AMC. Still plenty parts available at reasonable prices, including performance parts. A 4.0L head and EFI will fit too...

Glad You found it. I had to work, so my online manners lapsed. [LOL] I think the 420 had a lower set of gearing in 1st and 2nd.
