I have a rebuilt 194 chevy head, what would be the benefits and drawbacks of putting it on my 250, .060 overbored block? Dosn't the 194 head have smaller comb. chambers, therefore increasing comp. ratio? I have clifford dual carb intake with Holly/Webers, and dual outlet headers, everything hook up the same? Thank, John

John.. everything should pretty much hook up all the same.
The chamber is smaller.
It will increase you comp. ratio.
What pistons are you running? Flat tops, dished?
+ You will get better throttle response.
+ You will make more torque.
+ Could possible get better gas mileage.
- might have to run higher octane fuel.
There are more positives then negatives.
Goodluck!
Hank

with the 194 and dished pistons It will bring you into the 9-1 range. With a flat top it will bring you into about the 10-1 range. And you shouldn't need the Higher octane. Have a guy here running a 10-1 and he is still on plain pump gas. and I have never seen or Heard of him having a issue with it.

If you run a stock cam with flat tops on 87 octane I'm sure it will ping.
Just a thought.

Well here is how funny Our Motors can act when it comes to Low Octane. I was pushing better then 13-1 compression Motor far from stock. Reach in Bump the key she'd fire right up (to may surprize It started on the pump stuff 87) Never a Ping one Or any Marks in the pistons due to Not enough Octane. But Never try to shut this Beast OFF because it wasn't going to happen. I Used to load the clutch to shut it down. First Time I had Blowen the head gasket I was exspecting to See All Kinda Marks in the top of the pistons. NOT One to be found. And you never heard this thing Ping either. But Yes It could be a Issue with the Stock cam. But If you have a dished piston You shouldn't have any issue The 10-1 with the flat top and stock cam Maybe??

Thanks Hank & Larry,
The pistons are dished, the cam is 268H comp cam with .500 lift. I am just getting ready to have the block bored, would you recommend the molly or chrome molly rings. Any problem getting the chrome rings to seal? I will just be running on the street.

I'd personaly go with the Molly or a ceramic Molly ring NOT the chrome molly Rings They take longger and are harder to get seated/Sealed.If your not racing this Or anything on that Lines. Even stock cast rings will do.
