Does anyone make a good chrome timing cover for a 261 or do I need to go to a $$$$$chrome shop? I'm guessing that a 235 will also fit.

It's been awhile, but I only have seen E-bay "full" of that 8 cylinder stuff. I'll check some more. I did go to a chrome shop today. $85.00. May just paint it and dress it up whith some shiny screws.

OK, its been quite a long since I've posted on here, but, I see that you may benefit from my experience. That said, don't waste your money on a chrome timing cover, or anything else for that matter. I bought one for the '56 235 I rebuilt last April. It leaked like a seive, not just around the front main area, but from around most of the gasket sufrace. Fortunately I was able to swap it out easily for a freshly painted one I had, since I had drilled the threads out and installed the bottom 2 bolts form the front. Now, it looks like I need to replace that darned chrome thermostat housing...

Ebay. I can't remember the name of the place, but they had quite a selection of chrome and performance goodies for about any engine you can think of. They only listed two items for the 235/261-chrome timing cover and chrome thermostat housing.

Yes, the 235 and 261 covers are the same.
I have seen these chrome covers and housings on Ebay for some time now, but I don't see any currently on there, or even in completed auctions. You may have to wait awhile till they list more. I don't know who the seller was either.
Have you even tried to keep a chrome timing cover (or oil pan for that matter) clean so that it doesn't rust? If you ever have tried it, chances are you won't try it again... you need small hands, anal determination and too much free time to keep it looking nice. I would recommend clear coating it if you do go with chrome. Polished aluminum that's not coated is just as problematic...
I have been told that the trick to sealing chrome plated parts is to rough up the seal area with some very fine sandpaper or a scotchbrite pad, and then use some sealant.

I prefer the aluminum side and valve cover cause they seal much better and (to my opinion) look way cooler but this is a personal taste issue. Here is what you are looking for: Here , here , here , and here those are only the first 4 of about 3 dozend I found. Go to Ebay and copy/paste exactly(!) this in the search box: (chevrolet, chevy) (235,261) or try this Frank

I could have sworn they were sold by Hotzone Performance on EBay. I checked their store and web site hotzoneperformance.com and could not find them listed anymore. You may want to contact them...
