I had a new fiber camshaft gear as well
as a new stock camshaft pressed together
at a machine shop I deal with. After installing
the camshaft and aligning the timing marks.
I aligned my old gear with the keyway on the cam
and it looks like the new gear is a tooth off.
The old gear has a pronounced mark for the timing mark. Whereas the new gear has a small circle
dabded with white paint. Both gears have 54 teeth.
The same diamater. The new gear is a GM part #
3788508. Could the new camshaft be right and I'm
worried about nothing? Or should I realign the gear over I tooth. Any help would be appreciated.
The engine is a chevy 230.

The marks on the cam and crank do line up.
Just out of curiosity, I placed the old cam gear
over the new using the keyway on the cam as
a reference and noticed that the new camgear looked to be a tooth off. So before buttoning up the oilpan and the cam cover I wanted to be sure
about this,
Thanks for the fast reply.
