I have a '75 Pontiac Ventura with a 250 but the head and carb are from a Chev truck. The carb is a 1BBL Rochester "pot-belly".(I don't know what the difference is between the 'B','BC', etc. carbs)

I seem to be able to get rebuild kits easy enough but I'm having a hard time finding a set of floats. The floats in this carb look like a set of earmuffs.

Anyone know of a Canadian distributor for floats for this carb? I believe LMC trucks in the States has them.

The primnary difference is the type of choke. There were 3. A manual choke, A divorced choke in which the actuating coil was located on the exhaust manifold and a linkage rod ran up to the choke plate lever. An intergral choke which is the one with the housing on the side of the carb containing the coil which was heated by vacuum pulling heat from a manifold stove or electric. Beyond that most all the body and floats were the same. Most so called carb kits are simple tune up kits with gaskets and a few hard parts. A more complete kit for a major overhaul generally will include new floats. Have your local auto supply check for a listing of the complete overhaul kit. Having the little triangle brass tag that shows the carbs exact model number will make sure you get the right o/h kit.

Yes -
"B" is manual choke
"BC" is heat tube to bimetal coil on the carb
"BV" is bimetal on manifold, rod up to carb

Of all the B, BC, BV I've had ( a couple dozen?) I've never noticed a diff in the floats. I bet any swap meet carb ($10 or so) would have a usable float in it if you can't buy a new one

Thanks for the info. My carb is a BV. The metal tag is long gone but the number 7003538 is stamped on the mounting flange (proper term?). I assume this would be the same number that would appear on the metal tag. (correct?)

I assume that the M series will be the same as far as choke is concerned.

Update on the floats.

I fixed the float myself instead of buying another one. I plunged the float into a pan of boiling water to drive out the old gas and show me where the leak was, then I soldered up the leak. Works great.
