Hey guys my name is Mike.
I just picked up a 235 and have some questions?
if i read the casting numbers right its 1958 motor
I dont see a bolt holding the harmonic balancer on so is it just pressed on? I wanna turn it by hand so i can check the compression but the hole is round, is this right or is this thing just stripped ? any help would be appreciated.

Yep, those harmonic balancers were pressed on. If you tear the engine down for rebuilding, you can have a machinist drill and thread the crank and use a V8 harmonic balancer bolt to secure it. I recently had that done on a newer Chevy engine. Under normal circumstances, the balancer will never come loose, but I have seen a couple, on really hot engines, work loose.

Lord, let me live long enough to do all the projects I have planned!

There are 3 threaded holes in the damper. Put three long bolts in them and use a prybar, etc.. to turn it over.
