has anyone thought of grafting one of these into an old truck or do they have the same problematic transfer issues as the 4.2L, heck they make 245 horsepower and 245lbs of torque and get 23 mpg, and have 5 speed manual trannys too, and turbo kits for them make 335 hp, thoughts anyone?

I think this is being digested by the group. This is a computerized control system and will require many items that can only be had from a complete donor truck. I am unaware of any aftermarket system at this time to make this work in an older vehicle.

Somewhere on the internet is a forum with the small hummer in it. I saw it a few months back, and c/n remember the address. The main complaint about the engine seemed to be head gasket problems. there might be a recall for it.

My daughter bought a new Colorado with the 5 cylinder,it's an auto tranny 4x4 4 door cab so it's not the lightest truck. The engine sounds wierd and I hate to call it gutless, but it is, and gets not so good fuel mileage.Might be ok in a lighter vehicle with a 6 speed manual so you can keep the engine reved up into the power band.

I was recently issued a chev colorado as a company vehicle. I must say I am the reciprocal of all previous posts. 4 Door, long bed, not sure what the gearing is but I am pulling down 25-29 miles/gallon on the HWY. Last week I drove 500 miles from WA. to MT over 2 MTN. passes and avg. 29/gal. This vehicle is made for the HWY. 1750 RPM's at 85-90 MPH. Plenty of torque for passing and hills. Over 2200 RPM's is useless, get your foot out of it and let it shift gears. Would I consider it a donor/replacement motor---NO----it is what it is---I keep waiting for a cylinder to walk by and join the team since I feel short a team member. It is a capable motor but probably not one to pursue for any type of performance capability. Volvo has been using a 5 for years with excellent success--- I just don't see enough upside for this to be a well supported engine. I doubt you will see a thread like the 4.2L (Personal Opinion)
