I've got a 1951 1/2 ton GMC with a rebuilt 1966 250 CID which runs way better than I expected however, I'm using the old vacuum operated 10" wiper blade and motor, and come to find out the double sided vacuum assist fuel pumps will not fit this application according to the info from the fellows from NAPA.Could this be possible? or can I fabricate the fuel pump arm to fit? I guess they where using electrical wiper motors back in the early 60"s. Thanks to all.

You might be able to but; If your 12V, just get an electric wiper motor from a later vehicle.

You'll have multi-speeds & NO CHANCE of hurting your engine.

Patrick's may make them in 6V too.

Good luck. \:\)

Shoot I was hoping to use the old vacuum motor,
I really don't want to mess around with extending the fuel pump arm and damaging the cam shaft.
What about a small vacuum tank haven't I seen those before on old delivery trucks.?
I'm converted to 12v now mybe it's time for electronic wipers. Are the linkages the same?

Yes, there an exact match I'm told. Cheves of the 40s may have one too. \:\)

Walt's correct on the 'hook up' the pump (boster) just keeps the vacuum ones going at full throttle is all.

Good luck. \:\)

New Port Engineering 12 volt electric wiper kits are a direct bolt on replacement. It mounts the same way as the vacuum motor did and no linkage changes are necessary. Maybe the best $190 ever spent if you have to drive in the rain. Available from any well stocked aftermarket supplier or direct from New Port.

Mike G is giving some of the best advice I have seen in a long time. I bought a Newport conversion motor for my 41 Plymouth When I received it I read the directions and thought to myself "I have never bought any conversion unit that was an exact bolt in with no fileing or reshaping of anything" , so I preceded to remove the entire mounting bracket so that I could fit it up as needed to make it work. To make a long story short the Newport unit was exactly the same as the old vac unit I took off everything just fell right into place. This has to be one of the best suppliers out there. There units come standard as two speed but can be hooked up to an intermediate set up if you want.

Been there, Done that, Hope to live long enough to do it again.

I'm using the intake vacuum right now and the wipers work fine until I go uphill, guess this has always been a problem with these vacuum
operated wipers.
Any how, I live here on the left coast and don't have to use my wipers often so I'm thankful for that. I'll figure something out. Thanks

It's worth a try.

Some 70s vehicles had one the size/shape of a 1 Quart juce can. \:\)

Just saw this on ekbay. Mechanical fuel pump and vacuum pump in one. Made for Buses, forward control trucks, C20-60 trucks. If you really want to keep the vacuum wipers.

Looks like this may wrap so here is the number 320119363090
