How does one go about acquiring a connecting rod for 1958 261 ...casting number 3836964. I have 6 rods, but one is different...and about 27 grams lighter than the other 5. It has a different casting number (3836456) and looks like the metal is a different color. I noticed all this when I was weighing them to check for balancing. I'd rather have 6 matching rods. Would it be ok to just lighten the other 5 rods?

GM parts manual dated 1969 lists 3836956 as the part number,and the forging number seen on the rod as 3836964.This would be replacement part numbers in 1969,I believe there are other earlier forging and part numbers.
I've seen 261 rods come up on Ebay on occassion.Probably best to start off with a matched set of rods.Rods need to be balanced at both ends,27 grams is quite a difference.

Dear Mr. Brancheck;

Tony's right, 27g is a huge difference.

Call; Tom's Truck Parts in Miami, Ok. for a used one. The number is: (918) 542-3871. Then have the set balanced.

Good luck. \:\)
