I'm going to my first swap meet this weekend and would like to find a T5 tranny for my '66 Chevy truck. I'm told I should look for a 83-87 S10 that used the 2.8L engine. Is there a way to determine that at the meet?

I realize I could easily come home with something that wouldn't work at all.

Tom Langdon was going to fix one up for me about a year ago, and I had some unexpected surgery. Almost embarrassed to call him now....

Tom will surprise you. He is very understanding. The physical trans from a 4 cyl and a V-6 S-10 will look the same. It will have 14 teeth on the input spline and the shifter on the tailshaft is real close to the main body of the trans whereas the Camaro V-8 trans will have 26 teeth on the input and the shifter is closer to the tailend of the tailshaft. The later version of this trans has an electric speedo drive which is a little harder to hook up. Try and find an earlier one with the mechanical fitting that is the same as the 3 spd in your truck now. I installed one in my '65 Pickup. They work real nice, you will be happy....
