I was wondering how you can tell if you have a lock-up th350 or a non lock-up. The tranny I have sitting in the garage has no torque converter and I can't remember where I got it from, its been sitting for quite awhile. And does anybody know of a cheap place to get it rebuilt. I'm not looking for anything fancy right now, just want to drive the truck. Thanks for your help in advance.

Just look at the input shaft. If it has an O ring on it then it uses a lock up convertor

I don't know where you are located but most trans shops in my area get 600 and up to do a TH350.
For the same money you can get one from Jegs or Summit with performance upgrades done on it.

thanks for the info....Ya I called around here Oklahoma City and its about 600 also. I don't understand why it would be so much if you could get one from summit for the same price. I've been quoted all the way up to $1,200 to get it rebuilt. Just doens't make sense..its been around for ever. anyways thank you again.

It's simply because; Some shops are greedy.

The "average" auto trans (W/O 'hard' parts)costs about $90 in parts and about 1.5 hr. to rebuild.

Add to this the insane EPA regulations, hard to find builders, new/rebuilt converter & other business expenses, is how it gets there.

If you can find a shop that will R&R and build your trans for 7-$800 "go for it". You'll be ahead in the long run.

If your trans is out you could use that as a core & buy one "carry out" with a converter from a local shop & be okay too.

The 'catch' here is; Can you do the instlation properly and make the initial adjustments???

Good luck, John M...
