I'm going to check the timing on my L6 250 from 1977. It's actually in a 1966 truck.

There's a plate that looks like it has several teeth in it. Reading from left to right, there are two small teeth, then a large tooth, then a hollow cylinder. Can anyone tell me how to use these to set the timing?

Thanks,
Jeff

Have not seen a plate like you decribe... but I have not a 77 250 either. Not sure what the cylinder is?? This is just a guess assuming it you need it close to make it run.
The large tooth on the right I think could be TDC- Top dead center. #1 piston at the highest point. You can check it with #1 plug removed.

To the left of TDC is the advanced marks. See if there is any numbers or lines by cleaning the plate. Your timing should be 4-8 degrees advanced... but you need to look it up. If there are no marks maybe the smaller teeth are your advanced timing marks. Be sure to check the timing with the vaccum line removed from the dist. and plugged. Engine should be at idle speed.

Maybe someone that knows your year better will chime in. Hope that helps some.

Yep, I cleaned it off some and found the marks. Thanks!
