OK Inliners - you asked for a change in the display to show threads in reverse order, i.e. most recent reply at the top. We've made that change, but some may find it confusing. So you be the judge. Here is a poll - we'll leave this up for a while, to let you get accustomed to the new display - vote on how you want it. We'll tally the votes and the majority will rule.

Reverse Postings?
single choice
Votes accepted starting: 01/01/70 12:00 AM
You must vote before you can view the results of this poll.

I just noticed the change this morning; made me crazy for a few minutes till I figured out what was going on... \:\)

I like it; not only that, but I'm an Adminstrator, Moderator and 'plankowner' (I was one of about about 30 guys that financed and set it up) of an international military discussion forum known as 'TankNet'. We've had the 'last post on top' feature since the beginning, and until today, I've never seen another board set-up this way.

While it takes a little getting used to, If you have a long discussion going over several days (we've had some go for months) and you 'hit' the site several times a day (as many of us do), it saves you the time of scrolling through old posts (some of our topics have gone over 15 pages in less than a week!)

While INLINERS doesn't get that type of traffic, try the new format for a while - it grows on you!!

If you have any interest in things military, especially Armored Fighting Vehicles, or some really wild political discussions with views from around the world, come on over and have a look.

We FIRMLY moderate the site and do not tolerate any 'flame wars' or juvenile behavior, which sets us apart from most such forums. We also get together once a year, 2002 was at Fort Knox Kentucky, this year will be at Normandy for the 60th anniversery of D-Day.

Here's the site:

I did NOT break the tank(s)!

I guess I'm used to reading from the top down. I think what would please everybody would be something like the ChevyTalk site has, where once you're logged in, the site keeps track of where the posts were the last time you visited, and it will bump you forward to the last posting. With it the way it is right now, I have no idea how many posts were made since my last visit, so I'm forced to go all the way down and work my way back anyways.

I agree with what gearhead says. The 67-72 truck board is the same way.

Jack, Thanks for the new order. It is great, it sure saves a lot of time. I'm sure that when we all get used to it, we will all like it better.

My suggestion is that we return to the prior format.
It would seem to me that this will cause a lot of duplicate answers. Not all posters read the entire thread (I do). I only add if I have a suggestion that has not been given. I'm on numerous boards and they all run the other format.
So, I guess i'm just used to the format. Old dogs don't like new tricks! \:\)

i don't "hate" the new order, but i think that the old order is the lesser of the evils and, ultimately, more useful. With the old order one is more likely to respond to the original query or statement rather than to something else.

God's Peace to you.

Nope...the polls are set up to limit votes to one per registered user. We'll let this run a couple more days, then close the poll and go with the results at that time.

Darn, I thought that Mayor Daly's quote "vote early and vote often" was still in effect. I still like the new way better, it saves a lot of time scrilling through old messages.

To switch to a new forum, I have to scroll to the bottom anyway. Now I scroll down to the first of the last postings, scroll up to read them in order, then scroll clear to the bottom to change to a new forum topic. Sure doesn't seem like a improvement to me.

I don't "hate" the new reverse order but I don't particulary care for it,like others have stated, all of the boards that I frequent are set up the old way. Some of these boards will have an icon above the threads that reads something like "go to last post not read" and it will do just that, others like chevy talk will send you directly to the last unread post or the bottom of the page.I find myself very seldom using the feature and almost allways read the whole thing all over to refresh my mind(my memory is as short as...never mind!).I do appreciate the changes to the site and like many others I miss the reciprocating pistons alerting me to new posts,I also would like to thank the administration,Jack in particular,to put the matter to a vote allowing the readers to make the call,I think this is the first board that I've been that a change has been dealt with in this manner,my hat is off to you.At the end of the day,no matter wich way it goes I will continue to frequent this site even though a perennial lurker,my vote still counts.Thanks,HF.

Inliners, you have spoken - we are back to the original posting order. Final vote was over 2 to 1 against reverse posting. Thanks for voting!

Well, I see we are back to the backwards order. I really enjoyed the present response at the top so I didn't have to scroll through the whole mess to seen the latest comment.

Thank you, Jack, for listening to the members of Inliners International and to the users of this forum. You can't please everybody--and in this case no solution presently available is completely satisfactory--but it is clear that you are listening and trying. i am grateful for your care and good work.

God's Peace to you.

I agree with Don. Thanks for listening, and by the way, I prefer the old/new method. Assuming that all posts will have some relevance to the initial question, I prefer to see that post first.
