Inliners International Forums General Discussion Ford Trans for 1981, 300

I have a 1981 Ford Van with a 300 six and the overdrive 4 speed. I want to change the transmission to a 5 speed for a reasonable price. Is there any 5 speeds that will be a direct bolt in? Any comments will be appriciated.

I swapped a TKO 5 speed with the forward shifter location option for Ford's 4 speed OD and the shifter location is nearly identical. Same up front, just a little bigger in the tailshaft. TKO with forward shifter was $1700 though. Weaker Tremec may save a couple hundred.
