I've got a 57 3100 with 235 3spd. I've converted to Fenton headers with dual 2" exhaust flowing through glasspacks. The intake is Offy with dual Carter/Webers. I'm not happy with the cracklin' sound at high RPM. What mufflers are you using to get that sweet growl?

Check with Patrick's. They have a nice (side by side) dual muffler set up.

A single pipe/muffler would really knock the buzz out of the tone.

A single in/dual out muffler works well on the inlines as well,if your after that dual out look.

Generic dual turbos w/t an H pipe sound pretty good too, mellow idle, quiet cruising sound.

Been told the hooker aero chamber mufflers work real well on the inline as well.

Dual flowmaster 40's w/t and H pipe, sounds like a mild v-8 at idle on the ford 250, not sure how that might sound on a 235.

A crossover pipe will take out a lot of the crackle, too, but retain a similar sound. Maybe look into a 2 into 1 muffler, like a flowmaster 50 or is it 70 series? dual 2"in ,single 3" out something like that.

Dear Jerry;

The 'H pipe'/crossover, defeats the whole purpose of headers.

40" straight through mufflers should do it, or just; "keep your foot out of it in town".

Its been proven over and over, if you add an X pipe, with a full exhaust, you'll gain more HP/TQ than running open headers or any other exhaust setup...H pipe comes in a close second. From where I sit that would compliment headers, how does it defeat the purpose?

I've bought a set of Flowmaster 40's to try. I'll let you know how that works out. Thanks for the input.

That was fun. Thanks.

I need to update those pictures. Those were the shots I got when I was looking at buying the truck. She's a little different now.

I installed single leaf springs and dropped her 2.5"

I stained the bed dark and made side rails to match.

I've detailed the engine compartment and installed Offy dual intake and Fentons as well as HEI distributor and alternator.

I repaired the dash and installed a radio that fits in there.

All the trim is new. I also replaced the windshield and vent windows.

I installed a new steering wheel.

And much, much more that's not so obvious.

Jerry I am using Smittys on my 235 with 2 holley webber carbs and I have found that when my carbs are a little out of sinc the mufflers get to popping on one side or the outher. Try to adjust the carbs and see what happens before you spend a bunch of money on mufflers. I am using the same set up as you on my engine with the exception of the carbs.

Just read an Article on Dynomax 3" inlet internals and 3" outlet Round Super Turbos
part number 17698 if this is correct they flow
532cfm they are also supposed to sound good without being overly loud.
