My Gmc has 6 gauge holes and only 5 are filled the last has a GMC Filler. What was the hole for? A Tach? Just wondered.

The GMCs had an entirely different layout than the Chevys and there not as many of the GMC around. Check with Jolly at this web site he can help you.

It helps when you tell what year your truck is when you ask questions. I'm assuming it is a '54-'59 by your description. For a smaller truck it could have been filled with an optional tach or clock. Some larger trucks had standard tach.

How did they drive the big truck tach? I found the decal kit for the gauges and it shows that tach goes to 4 grand which would be just right for a truck. How hard are the tachs to find? I thought about using a moon of SW to give it that vintage look but a factory one would be great.

I haven't seen a GMC dash with Tach come up on that auction site. The Chevy will go for $200-300 depending on condition and whether it has the Tach sender included. The senders are either 6 or 8 cylinder. There is an air pressure guage as well. I've seen several write ups on using after market Tach that has a 180 degree face installed in the Chevy dash.

The Big Truck I saw was a machanical tach. It was out of 2.5 ton truck and was different than the electrical tach in the 1/2 tons.

As far as I know, there was not a tach offered in the 54-55 GMC pickups--just the big trucks. The opening is for a clock. I have a sun tach like the second example on the website. I had it in my 54 for several years, however it was with a 12 volt sender. I also have some 6 volt senders, but I don't know if any are good. The tach i have came out of a 60-66 GMC pickup--factory tach. If you want it,maybe we can work a deal. The numbers on the tach are the same style as the rest of your gauges. Joe
