I've heard of these - along with some pretty awesome heads, cams and intakes. The Team Highball guys were known to use some of these "cheater" parts on the Levi's Gremlin and Pacer IMSA RS racecars. But no complete motors ever surfaced, to my knowledge.

The 282 is nothing more than the 4.0 stroker that was mentioned in Cherokee swap post. Vam 282 and the 258 has the same stroke. 282=3.910 bore,258=3.750 bore, 4.0=3.88 bore. Swap the 258 rods and crank in the 4.0 block and you have a 276.5 motor. Use the 4.0 head and you now have a motor that will out perform the VAM 282 by a long shot.

It's that simple. Find the 4.0 donor, use the pistons, block, head-----then get the 258 and use the crank and rods-----you're done. If you opt to use a carb, make and adapter and bolt the carb to the injected manifold--plug the injector holes and enjoy. BTW, try to find the 1991 or newer 4.0, they are High output.

Yes, the jeeps have the following choices factory, 199=3.75 bore and 3" stroke, 232=3.75" bore and 3.5" stroke, 242=3.88" bore and 3.42" stroke, 258=3.75" bore and 3.895" stroke, VAM 282=3.91" bore and 3.895" stroke. Mix and match the 4.0 block with any of these cranks and you could come up with several combos if you were willing to overcome the rod length issue.
