I am working on a motor for my 63 Nova and I want to ask some questions on proven combinations. If you have anything to add or suggest I would love to hear from you. For the sake of time I will list what parts I have and you guys can suggest what to use or not to use. I realize this is not an exact science but I'm sure I'm not the first one to do a build similiar to this. My parts are as follows:
-Rebuilt 250 short block, cast pistons, .040 over.
-Lump-port head w/ manley sbc valves, dual springs
-Mallory unilite ignition
-clifford intake, headers and 270 duration cam(all currently installed on my original 194 motor and it runs like crap...no torque.)
-Rhodes lifters
-Stock powerglide and rear w/ 308's
-I have a both a 390 and a 600 Holley I can use.
My question is what do I need to change/fix/etc. to make this a sweet setup? I will take suggestions on any aspect from the cam to the rear-end. I have strongly considered an Offy manifold for more low-end torque, possibly roller rockers, different gears, etc. I am also looking for suggestions on a cam, I have not been overly impressed with any of Cliffords products so cam suggestions are welcome. I am not bashing Clifford, I just don't see why they rave about the torque these motors can produce but sell products that don't emphasize low-end torque. The products they offer seem to be all-out race parts which are very hard to tune for the street. I hope to get some good feedback, it seems like there are some pretty sharp "inliners" in this forum.
