I'm putting my 250, 1966, back together. At the risk of sounding like a rookie, it's only the second 250 I've rebuilt, I have a question about the rear oil pan gasket.
According to FelPro, if my rear main bearing cap is flat to the block (I can see and feel the gasket in the block) I don't cut the vertical tabs on either side of the rear oil pan seal. It seems to me that with any tab at al,l on this seal, the extended wings won't lay flat on the block. Sounds like a leak to me.
Let me know if this is not clear.

where the rubber tabs meet up with the cork side rail gaskets meet use a dab of RTV this will seal the two together.

Thanks, I understand that part. My questions is the tabs that stick down below the wings about 3/16 of an inch. The seal itself (not counting the wings) is more than 180 degrees around. So it won't sit flat against the block. My info says to cut it down to 1/16 of an inch on either side of the seal, is that correct?
