I have this anoying whistle coming from the carb at part throttle. It sounds like a vacume leak. The engine is new as are all the gaskets. I have sprayed wd around the ports and found nothing. So, I pulled the ronchester off and replaced it with a rebuilt carter yf from my old jeep. It runs good except less power. But now the sound is even louder. When your cruising down the road at part throttle you dont here it, but give it a little gas and its right there. In case anyone is wondering this is on a non intergral 250, and it does not have any smog ports above the exhaust. Any ideas?

Could it just be the way the air is flowing into the carb? I've heard whistling from a few carbs, and it was just that they were sucking alot of air. My 600cfm Edelbrock does the same thing when the secondaries kick in. My old one-barrel would whistle under WOT. Just a simple thought. John

Sounds like a normal situation to me. That's one reason why the manufacturers go to the trouble of making those ugly air cleaners with the snorkles on them. It's to help make it run quieter for all the non-car general public out there.
