I have a 250 that is out of (and will be going back into) my 1965 GMC pickup that I hope to start rebuilding later this year so I'm following the 250 dyno thread with great interest.

I have a basic plan (thanks to Leo's book) for my engine and my first question is about the 292 oil pan, which the book says to use. But as we know these parts are getting harder to find. There is a 292 for sale in my area out of a 67 C20/30 but I wouldn't want to buy the entire engine for just the oil pan.

Is there an aftermarket company that makes an oil pan for the 292? I've searched a bit but haven't found anything yet. Thanks.

There are several aftermarket companies that can make them custom for you like, Hamburger and Moroso, but there aren't any off the shelf deeper sump oil pans for these engines. You can always modify your stock pan by adding a deeper sump to it. But thats your only choice other than the 292 pan.

A 292 will go into your 1965 GMC pickup as easily as a 250 and gets you more cubes, tq and hp. Why not do your build with the 292? besides, it already comes with the pan you want.

The 250 is the original engine from the truck so I want to keep it that way. If I were doing an all out performance build I would start with the 292. At almost 300 horsepower, my daily driver is fast enough and I have a track toy, this truck is just going to be a cruiser.

You will be able to buy the whole 292 for less than a custom oil pan. Then, you can save the head for a spare and sell the short block and come out of it with little cash outlay.
