Ron, the new oil pump I just installed on my 292 came with a gasket of fairly thin material.

I believe the rebuild kits come with a gasket for the oil pump cover and the pump to motor mounting flange.
I use sealer on these and where the pickup attaches to pump so as to avoid leakage and sucking air into pump.

I believe I used the Permatex #1 or 2, the one that stays tacky, but maybe Hylomar which I normally like for vacuum leak prone areas.
I think some folks weld or braze there pickup tubes on.
