Inliners International Forums General Discussion Engines 1945 GMX 6x6 Army truck engine??

Picking up a 1945 GMC 6x6. Any idea on what engine it is? Is has GMC on the valve cover. Would it be the 270?

I'm pretty sure it's a 270. I don't think the 302 cam out until 1952. Take a look at the number stamped just behind where the distributor shaft goes into the block. The first 3 numbers will tell you what size the engine is. 270xxxx will be a 270.
