Well heres the story. I purchased this 1981 gmc 1/2 ton. After doing some work to the truck I started snooping around the carb today only to realize it says (Manufactured by carter/weber for Motorcraft)I then made a phone call to my parts guy and gave him the info off the red tag "autoline C-6077 " He was certain right away of what carb this is and said get rid of it they were a terrible design and were common on ford inline 6 engine back in the 70s and often had problems.. So based on his advise I would like to find a carb that works well and is a good match to my stock 292.. What can you guys recommend ? Thanks in advance for your help guys.

I checked "autoline C-6077" and it is a 1bbl carb. I believe you have an integral head on the 292. That is the intake manifold is part of the head therefore the intake can't be changed without changing the head. All of the 292s I've seen with the integral head originally came with a Rochester Qjet2 a progressive 2bbl. The 250 did come with a 1bbl integral head, so the question might be do you have a 250 or 292.

Are your side covers 4" or 6" high??

Let me begin by providing more information. This motor was transplanted into this truck by previous owner. The stock engine was a 250 inline 6.
Intergral head no.. Its bolted on and the intake manifold gasket can easily been seen.
Casting number on block is 3851659 and the side cover are 6 inches tall.
The Carb, It leaks fuel and I feel it needs to be swapped out for a new one. Yes from what I have been reading a Rochester was very common on a 292, but what exact model is what I would love to know..and was it a 2 bbl ??

1981 K10 would have come w/ intergral head 250. 292 we're never built w/ intergal head, only late 4.1 (250).
292 would have come w/ a Rochester Monojet (1981 20 & 30 series model 1ME0, carb # 17081009, 17081309 & 17081329), all 1bbl. If you want to say 1bbl I like rochester model "B" (1967 and eariler) better than monojet (1968 - up).
