Most pressure plates surfaces I have seen are not lower than the housing so resurfacing is difficult without taking it apart.

I've used those 3" maroon pads on a drillmotor to remove some surface rust on both pressure plates and flywheels. I've even used a 6" disk sander a long time ago. Depending on the depth of the pitting it may need to be replaced; but I would clean it up first.
