Hello guys, i am planning to convert my chevy inline 292 to TBI, I did a lot of search and red some articles, I will be using the v8 305 or 350 TBI system What parts I need to take off of the donor’s engine with TBI, wiring harness and the computer. Do I need sensors, which? Change the distributer?

Here is some stuff I put together a while back. The projects were never completed. Maybe someday. Hope it helps. Beater

Here are 2 photos of the DEMO (on the grand prize motor) we did at the Texas Convention last years. Beater loaned us the wiring harness and Marc and Tom did the deed. Thing fired up and ran good.

Jerry, what are the polished headers on the give away motor? Look like the ones from Stovebolt but yours don't look like the cast set that I have or are these just hot coated?

Tks..

Who ended up with that engine? Where is it now?

They were cast and Al ground and polished them smooth and I think a member in Ft. Worth had them chromed. I don't remember the person that won the motor. I haven't heard what he did with it. I think he lives in the Dallas area. Maybe someone else has that info....Jerry

You will need the coolant, MAP, TPS. Sensors, if you have a points distributor then its a real good idea to convert to either HEI or Pertronix either works.

The stock GM computer is not easy to tune without special equipment and the V8 calibration will not run on a 6.

I used a megasquirt to do the conversion in Texas and still have the base tune that will get you running.

Other options are a Holley ECM or on line you can get special modules to all the GM ECM to be tuned.

Cost wise megasquirt in the lowest method but does require some time to read and understand the manual.

With the Holley again it will take some time to learn.

Howell Engine Developments also offers a refurbished GM TBI system, though not low dollar. Model K247C

One up side for the GM TBI is that in an hour or so you can have every thing you need, except the ECM, to make it run from a donor. Someone here used a V6 ECM but I think someone tweaked it for him. (Diceman?) Megasquirt is the way to go. You can get a kit or one that is ready to go. Gm TBIs are easier to rebuild than a carb and every part you need to maintain the system will be in almost any parts store you walk into.

I just sent an old thread called "Injection system for 302" back up because it has some stuff that adds to this and I don't know how to link it. Beater
