I have a 59 chevy truck with the stock 235 and the stock drive train. Would there be any point to upgrading to either the 2bl carb or 2x1 set up AND splitting the exhaust if the stock 3 speed and stock rearend are still going to be used?

I mean. Does it make sense to give more power to the engine if I still won't be able to go over 60 mph on the freeway?

Your thoughts?

splitting the exhaust should help your MPGs and performance. The 2bl or 2x1 may improve performance , but may or may not hurt MPGs.Only my 2cents but hope it helps }[oooooo]

Dear Memo;

The legal speed limit may be 65, but getting there faster is fun for some.

good luck, John M........

Any time you reduce exhaust back pressure the engine can breath better and as a result torque output goes up. So the end result is if you drive gently and don't use the extra torque for "fun" your gas milage should increase.

Adding a staged 2 barrel carb will help also, the mono-jet is a simple design and isn't up to the task of delivering both mileage and performance. Remeber when it was designed gas was <30 cents/gal.

Try and get a staged 2 barrel carb off of a late model 250 six with the integrated head and get the linkage etc. while your there.
